The afternoon will be a hands-on suturing workshop with specialist plastic surgeons and nurse practitioners. There will be two concurrent workshops:
Fundamentals: this is a suturing workshop focussed on finessing the techniques that plastic surgeons use to minimise scarring and maximise wound closure. This workshop will be concentrating on excisions, dermal sutures, epidermal techniques including subcuticulars, and other repair techniques used in skin cancer surgery such as basic flaps.
Advanced: this is a suturing workshop for those who have already had a broad experience in skin cancer surgery, and already have well-established fundamental skills. The focus will be on complex flap designs in difficult areas with possible pitfalls. There will also be an opportunity to learn how to perform a full thickness skin graft, including donor site management and strategies to maximise graft take.
You will receive a questionnaire prior to the workshop that will help us allocate you into the right group. Please note that the suturing workshop will involve handling of raw pork belly, there will be no synthetic substitute available.
